7 Simple Workouts for Entrepreneurs

There should be an entire website dedicated to workouts for entrepreneurs. Why? Because there are so many of us that own businesses and know we need to workout. We need effective and efficient workouts that will help us meet our fitness goals.

Well, I have great news for you: You don’t have to miss out on exercise just because of your packed schedule.

With the right workouts and a little dedication, you can stay fit without leaving home – no expensive gym membership required! I know  because I workout at home and the workouts I’m going to share with you are my personal favorites.

In this blog post, I’m going to show you seven exercises that are perfect for entrepreneurs like you and me. I’m no fitness expert, (I’m an entrepreneur) but I’ve found that these exercises are not only efficient but they are also effective.

From high-intensity interval training (HIIT) to dynamic stretching and balance work, these basic movements will help target all major muscle groups with minimal time commitment so you can get back to growing your business.

Let’s get started!

#1 - Boosted Walking

Boosted walking is one of my favorite workouts for us entrepreneurs! It’s simply a walking workout that is interspersed with 1 minute fast bursts of activity (i.e. jogging in place) known as HIIT.

My Assessment of this Workout:

  • Fitness level: Beginner
  • Equipment needed: None
  • Cardio or Strength Training: Cardio
  • Travel friendly: Yes

I use the workouts that are available on YouTube and conducted by my favorite instructor Leslie Sansone. This is really a no excuses workout because you don’t need any equipment.

Also, there are workouts that range from 10 minutes to 1 hour. So whatever amount of time you have available, you’ll be able to find a workout video that can accommodate your schedule.

This is also a full-body workout because in addition to walking you’ll also be doing arm exercises as part of the workouts (overhead presses, arm extensions, etc.)

Definitely try boosted walking because it’s not only effective, it can be done anywhere.

Here’s one of the videos I use pretty often:

#2 - Mini-Stair Stepper

Here’s the 2nd of my 7 workouts for entrepreneurs… It’s a workout that uses a mini-stair stepper.

I have to say I love this little stepper! It was referred to me by one of my business besties who also doesn’t like to workout at the gym. I decided to check it out and when I saw that it had 30k positive reviews, I decided to get one.

This stepper will allow you to get in a good cardio workout and tone your arms at the same time (if you use the resistance cables).

Initially, it may take some getting used to because you may need to work on building up your balance.

My Assessment of this Workout:

  • Fitness level: Beginner/Intermediate
  • Equipment needed: Mini-Stair Stepper
  • Cardio or Strength Training: Both (if you use the resistance cables)
  • Travel friendly: No

The way that I use this is to put on one of my favorite TV shows or headphones and my favorite playlist, then I just start stepping!

The manufacturer recommends that you only use it for 15 minutes at a time so as not to damage the hydraulics. Trust me, you can get a good workout in during those 15 minutes.

The company also has free workout videos available on YouTube that you can follow along with, if you need a coach.

#3 - Resistance Cables

I’m a firm believer that you need to incorporate strength training into your workouts and these resistance cables can help you do just that.

No, I’m no fitness expert but I’ve heard a lot of people who are say you need to do strength training. So I had to find a way to do that and these cables were a great solution for me.

My Assessment of this Workout:

  • Fitness level: Beginner/Intermediate
  • Equipment needed: Resistance Cables
  • Cardio or Strength Training: Strength Training
  • Travel friendly: Yes

There are four (4) cables included that are 10, 15, 25 and 30 lbs. If you want more resistance than one cable can provide, you can add two cables to the included handle.

The resistance cables come with a bag to keep them altogether. The bag and portability of the cables also makes it easy to travel with them. This takes away any excuses for not working out while you are traveling.

Using these cable can really help you tone your arms. You’ll be surprised at how much of a workout you’ll get by using them.

There are also a number of videos available on YouTube that will guide you through a great work. Here’s one of of the ones that I use:

#4 - Dumbbells

To prevent boredom and fitness plateaus, I like to mix up my workouts. So  I alternate between the resistance cables and dumbbells to add some variety.

My Assessment of this Workout:

  • Fitness level: All
  • Equipment needed: Neoprene Dumbbells
  • Cardio or Strength Training: Strength Training
  • Travel friendly: No

Dumbbells give you a lot of variety in terms of the exercises you can do with them. They are an excellent choice for providing additional resistance when doing compound exercises such as the squat, curl and press.

You can also use dumbbells when walking or doing boosted walking (see above), to increase the intensity of your workout.

The thing that I really like about dumbbells is that you can use them get a full-body workout. That means you can work abs, arms, back, chest, glutes, legs, etc.

Just a recommendation…  as you review this list of workouts for entrepreneurs, make sure you include some form of cardio AND some form of strength training. Your body needs both!

Do yourself a favor and pick up some dumbbells; your future self will thank you!

Here’s a workout video that I use as a guide when I’m working out with dumbbells:

#5 - Yoga

I discovered yoga when I developed sciatica (it’s not fun). When the sciatic nerve gets compressed from sitting too much or other things, you need to stretch it out.

My Assessment of this Workout:

  • Fitness level: All
  • Equipment needed: Yoga Mat or Towel
  • Cardio or Strength Training: Flexibility
  • Travel friendly: Yes, you can use a towel instead of the mat
Yoga helps me relieve the pain I get from sciatica. Yoga also helps improve flexibility which a lot of us lose as we get older.
Of all of the workouts for entrepreneurs that I include here, I recommend that you try yoga. It can help you relax your mind, reduce your stress levels, reduce anxiety,  and just get mentally clear.  These are things that many of us solopreneurs need help with.
What I really like about yoga is you can do it almost anywhere and it doesn’t require any set amount of time.
I recommend that if you are going to try yoga, that you get yourself a good mat. The one that I have is listed below.

Also, I need to be guided through my yoga workouts, so here’s one of the videos that I use to guide me through a quick workout.

#6 -Step Aerobics

Here’s a workout for entrepreneurs that will be a throwback for some, step aerobics! Remember, the workout that was popular in the 80s?

Well, step aerobics has made a big comeback. There’s even a hip-hop version of step aerobics. I’ve tried it; it’s super-fun and intense!

My Assessment of this Workout:

  • Fitness level: All
  • Equipment needed: Aerobic Stepper
  • Cardio or Strength Training: Cardio
  • Travel friendly: No

Step aerobics will definitely get your heart pumping. I usually do a 30 minute workout and by the end of the workout, I’m dripping in sweat.

If you are looking for a fun cardio workout to add to your routine, you might enjoy step aerobics.

Here’s the stepper that I have:

Here’s one of the step aerobics workouts that I do occasionally.

#7 - Rowing Machine

Of all of the workouts for entrepreneurs that I’ve listed, this is my favorite! It’s rowing.

I discovered rowing in 2020 at the start of the pandemic (remember that?)  I was on a webinar and the host mentioned that they use rowing as a way of staying in shape.

After the webinar, I started researching and liked the benefits you could achieve from rowing.  One of the best things for me was that it was a full body, low-impact workout.

My Assessment of this Workout:

  • Fitness level: All
  • Equipment needed: Rower
  • Cardio or Strength Training: Both
  • Travel friendly: No
What I really like about rowing is that it’s such an efficient workout; you get both a cardio and strength training workout at the same time.
And, I can’t leave out that you burn a lot of calories, in a short period of time. That makes it an excellent workout choice if you are looking to lose weight.

Rowing Workout for Beginners

For my workouts on the rower, sometimes I just row for a specific distance, other times, I row using a guided workout.

When I row using a guided workout, I use the ones offered by Dark Horse on YouTube. Here’s one of his beginner workouts:

As you can see, these workouts for entrepreneurs are perfect for those of us that primarily work from home.

I felt that this post was important to share because as entrepreneurs, we sometimes get so wrapped up in content creation, webinars, masterclasses, video production, product launches, etc., that we sometimes forget to prioritize our health.

Many of us decided to become entrepreneurs to be able to help people, earn unlimited income, and have control over our schedules so that we can spend time with people that mean the most to us.

None of that will mean anything if we neglect our health or are too ill to enjoy the fruits of our labor. So, give your workouts as much attention as you do your business.
